AUBURN NEEDS TO FIRE TONY FRANKLIN!

October 4th, 2008 | by Ethanator1088 |

AUBURN NEEDS TO FIRE TONY FRANKLIN! Tony Franklin is completely inept at being a division one college football offensive coordinator. He needs to have his offensive coordinators license revoked. I will hand it to Vandy for being well prepared, but Auburn had the game won in the first half. All they had to do was run the ball.

I completely understand that Vandy stopped Auburn at the goal line on the first drive, but on the way to the goal line, they destroyed Vandy. Auburn was in control.

Tony Franklin is looking for the first reason to pass out of the spread.  He is having a melt down. He has lost his sense of reality, or he is just not good at all.

Tommy Tuberville on the other hand, does not understand offense at all. We all remember the Hugh Nall chronicles. He lets anybody grab a hold of his offense and lets them go willy nilly. Tommy Tuberville is a defensive guy, that is a good “president” of football operations, but he is being a bad head football coach. A good head football coach would be able to stop this kind of stuff from happening on offense.

There is no saving Tony Franklin. He obviously is in way over his head. All they had to do was run the ball and they would have beat Vandy.

There goes the season, if you are an Auburn fan. Things will just get worse. This game is proof that they will not go to the run, even if they are dominating the run game.

Tony Franklin’s Days are numbered. Because Tubs is the boss it will be his fault if he doesn’t nix Franklin.

I am entering my unlikely resume for offensive coordinator. Seriously, If they do let Franklin go who would step in?

I totally agree with the statements above. How can you run the ball the way AU did in the first quarter then not do it after halftime but one play (which gained 12 yards). I also wonder if maybe Tommy is ready to go and this is his subtle way of destroying Auburn before he leaves for the way he was treated by the administration several years ago. I know this will sound far-fetched to most of you but I can find no other reason he did not step in Saturday night against Vandy and make Franklin go back to the run which was working so good. Its almost as if he doesn’t care. He can ride this “We are being committed to the new offense” and not expose the fact that he knows it wont work and cant work right now without the athletes to run it. He seems so unmoved that we look pitiful on offense. So I ask you, is this how he bow’s out, and taked Auburn down with him? I think it is a great possibility.

He needs to go now! i haven’t like the spread offense since the first time i saw auburn run it against Clemson! In answer to your question, who cares who takes his place it cant get worse! The mistakes and bad decisions being made are so obvious almost anyone with a football background could do better. When the bar is set as low as franklin has set it we can only go up with change.

Just as Saban’s coaching style works in college, but not in the NFL, Tony’s works for highschool, but not college.

I have an idea don’t fire Tony Franklin but pay him commision for offensive production:points scored, touchdowns, fieldgoals, total yards and etc.I believe the problem then would work itself out.He will either be productive or starve to death.Or quit would be fine too.

Franklins offense isn’t working on the high school level either. Americus Sumter High(GA) paid Franklin $3000 this summer for “The System” and the system has done exactly what Auburn is doing - nothing! He is going to go broke giving refunds. I would say that we find out who is the best offensive coordinator in the country, pay them what it takes to get them and go from there.

I am a UT fan, you have the same problem we do, OC sucks, and your QB’s are not much better. UT will be lucky to win another SEC gane this year.

The head coach gets far too much credit and reward when things go well and not enough blame when things go bad. The staff or somebody else or something else is always blamed. Wasn’t it Tuberville who hired Franklin? And doesn’t that represent the worst possible judgement you ever saw in the football universe? Tuberville is the one who should be fired! I’m sure the new coach would not keep Franklin.

    Hello my AU commrades:
My Background: AU Walk-on, semi pro ball. PhD.Education & Psychology–
Now then, at one time I talked to Tuberville when he first arrived at Auburn. I asked key questions about the offense… back when there were great backs like Brown and Cadillac. Becuase of their talent, there was no real offenseive game plan or key plays for the red zone which shocked me when conversing. That is why we can never opt for the Natl.Championship. If you cannot get a first down in critical games to run out the clock or have a bread and butter play for last minute yardage, you will lose. Currently, Tubbs is a deffensive coordinator at best. The new Spread has to be worked in and combined w/ current talent and other schemes……You are going to tell me that the new scheme is only the spread? The past game showed a lack of plays..!! x 10..!! Play selection , play selection , play selection. Not fair to the student athletes because of inept, incompetent coaches. The only scheme I saw Saturday was Tate right sweep. No screens, draw, or tight end plays. No innovativeness. Now there is no discipline w/ penalties and personal grudge fights(pers.foul) on the line. Reminds me of the rise and fall of Fla. State.
    Good Luck guys..enough for now.

i totally agree and what makes the matter worse is that chris todd keeps starting because he his tony franklins little bia oh he really knows the spread better sure is that why thier doing so good or is it that he is slower than a turtle and no team is convinced that he will take off any play . i just feel so bad for the defense bieng so great and having it taken away from them i mean damn look at how long they are on the field compared to the offense and they get 3rd and outs i hope franklin is gone by the end of the season i am a die hard auburn fan but i will not watch another game untill the iron bowl because of how poorly we are playing and its not just because we are loosing if we lost and played a good football game id be happy with that

I looked on the back of a milk carton today, and low and behold there was a “Missing Persons” alert for the Auburn Offense. Tony Franklin HAS to go, and go now. Not at the end of the year…but now, before the Arkansas game. I am glad there is a cantonyfranklin website. And to think, people were paying $3k for this guys spread offense. He would have to pay ME to try to use his crap. Franklin HAS to go!

So does anyone know why Pat Dye was in Arkansas today? I was wondering if it had something to do with the upcomming game or if they are scouting for a coach.

Anyone heard of a high school called Hoover? They were pretty good. Oh anyone heard of a school called Troy? They pretty good too.
With this so called “new offense” Auburn is putting in now since Franklin left is going to be funny to watch. Hell I watched them and their Rec. couldn’t catch, OL sucked I saw them get in a 3 point stance 4 times against VANDY and their Center got his butt kicked everytime. Funny I can’t wait to watch against WVU tomorrow night.

No offensive coordinator will work at Auburn as long as Tubb retains his offensive cronies, (with exception to Eddie Grann) after all there have been 5 in his ten years there! Shouldn’t that tell us all something!
