Auburn vs West Virginia, Prediction, 2008. In the preseason, this game had national attention written all over it. ESPN was all like YES! We get that for a Thursday night game! Now this game will garner national attention just like a 2 and a half hour train wreck would garner national attention.
Auburn is a cautionary tale of how stupid the spread looks when you do not have a head coach that knows the spread. The head coach needs to be in control when you run the spread. He needs to know more the the OC. It is very dangerous when the head coach hands the offense over to a coordinator “lock and key”. That is what Tommy did with Tony Franklin.
Auburn is the better team on paper if they go to the I and run up the gut and off the tackles. Auburn is the better team, if the defense stays off the field a little bit. Last week was ridiculous.
Dr. Saturday is reporting that Tommy Tuberville did not have a stroke and that Tommy is a huge “Auburn Man” . Regardless of that, I think Tommy is gone, if he loses. He has made too many people mad to start losing this much, this late in the season.
West Virginia could win, if Pat White has a 2007 like game. He could do it. Devine and White need to rush right at Auburn. Arkansas more than proved that can be done. West Virginia has not played anyone, but Auburn has not beaten anyone.
My prediction is that Auburn will win depending on how much they run the ball out of the I. If they try the spread, West Virginia will pick it apart with smiles on their faces.
It is that simple. If Auburn runs out of the I, they show off their talented running backs, and the defense stays off the field. That is the kind of football Auburn has been playing for the past 28 years or so. ( Besides the Tommy Gun era ) That is why Tommy T has been working there so long. If they try to run the spread, they will lose, and Tommy will most likely get fired.

I dont see a firing of the head coach coming, but it could certainly set up a ticking clock for next season. A kind of “Get it done or else” 2009. I am not an Auburn fan but being an Ole Miss fan, there is one thing I can promise, I dont care one bit what happens to Tubby. I’ve picked Auburn to win on my blog as well, but it is because I am a Conference first kind of guy.
