Alabama vs Auburn, 2008 Iron Bowl, Prediction. Alabama is ranked #1 in the nation. Auburn is in a season long downward spiral. This season has been a disaster for Auburn fans, but this game could make up for it all.
Alabama has, in one year, regained their place as one of, if not the, best teams in America. Nick Saban has proven what I have been saying about college athletics. It is 75% coaching. The other 25% is talent and timing. With the scholarship situation, a team can turn their fates around very quickly with the right coach. Alabama has done that in spades. I picked them to finish third in the SEC West. I knew they would be good, but I had no idea that Saban would put them in this situation.
On the other hand, some of the wins have been ugly. The Tulane win was not pretty. The Georgia win does not look as good as it did back then. There have been a lot of near losses, but they did pull them out. J.P. Wilson does not play that well @ home and Alabama has never defeated Auburn in Tuscaloosa.
Auburn, on the other hand, went from bad to worse to respectable. They played decent against Georgia last week. They were in that game and played respectable. They gave the ball to Fannin a lot, and Burns looked better than average. You seriously can not say anything else that is positive about Auburn right now except that they were ranked preseason top 10, and they might be starting to come around.
Saying all that, I will go for the upset. Auburn will win the 2008 Iron Bowl. Alabama has been way too lucky. They have looked very average in a lot of their games. I think Auburn has top 10 talent. The coaching has not been there. I think that the coaching is coming around. I think they will play towards their strength which is running and not out of the spread.
This reminds me of the 2003 Iron Bowl. Auburn stunk it up all year including the Georgia game, but then they decided to run down Alabama’s throat in the Iron Bowl and it worked. It did not hurt that they had Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, and Brandon Jacobs either.

I think this is going to be a great game. I think Alabama will win because they want it, and they DO have skill. Luck has had nothing to do with any game that they have played. Same for Auburn- they haven’t had bad luck. Its just how they play this year. I know that Auburn has beat Alabama the past 6 years, but this game will make up for it. I’m really excited.

Abbey – I think Auburn has not been unlucky. I agree that they have been bad. I just feel that they have more talent and the coaching staff is starting to realize how to use that talent.
I think Alabama has better coaching, but I think they have less talent. I think they have peeked. I think that their ugly wins are proof of that. I think if Auburn comes in with a strong running game, they will win.

Auburn’s poor offense will suffer. The only hope they have is running the football, and they wont be able to against Alabama’s awesome rushing defense.

Auburn will utilize the running threat of Cody Burns this week and will get the ball to the tailbacks more. There is not a player on the Alabama football team that has ever beaten The Auburn Tigers. Despite Tubberville, Auburn wins 7 straight.

wow Fred, you have got to be the dumbest poster I have seen in a while. Auburn has not played a defense as good as alabama’s yet. Alabama is ranked 3rd in the country in total defense, and auburn has the 103rd ranked scoring offense. So, you think the score will be 48-3, you might want to do your homework before making yourself look stupid. Alabama wins 31-13.

I’m really clueless on this one,umm well lets look at the facts,Alabama has gone from playing mediocor-average to playing well,if not great. Auburn on the other hand is what you can call a work in progress (for this year)
however i am an Auburn fan,and I personally think If we play Alabama great and we can run the ball successfully and our defense keeps doing well,i think we can win.but it wont be easy by any means.Alabama is really good this year.ell me what you think guys War Eagle!

Well, all I can say is that its Alabama’s turn to win the Iron Bowl. The whole “Alabama will crack under pressure” thing is a bunch of bologna. I went to the LSU vs Bama game, & trust me, Alabama doesn’t crack under pressure. That game was away, and those tiger fans were rough (as well as the players.) Any Auburn follower can honestly say that Auburn’s two conference wins were just by a combined three points. I will admit, though, Auburn keeps a close game. Still, close doesn’t count in college football.

I don’t think that it matters who’s turn it is to win. which ever team shows up is the one that is going to win. for one thing you can’t really tell what is going to happen in the iron bowl. The pressure of this game gets to both teams. And as for Alabama’s game against LSU, LSU sucks they have not had a good season. I’m an Auburn fan and I admit Auburn has not had a good season by any means. This will be a fight of special teams. My prediction is that Alabama will be looking into the future at the SEC game and fold when it comes to the Iron Bowl. Alabama is not National Champions material this year. They are not consistent throughout the game.

guys, chill ^_^. No one knows who will win. But looking purely at the stats, predicting an Auburn upset is… rather ill-conceived. And the original poster.. your math is kind of off lol. You said yourself, paraphrasing of course ” 75% coaching 25% talent” you go on to say in a comment that “alabama has better coaching” … and predicting an auburn win? 75>25 no? lol just curious. I’m not even calling this one. Though the math is clearly in Alabama’s favor in this one.

Alabama has had better coaching over the course of the year. I think that Saban is better than Tubbs, but I think Auburn has more talent, and I think that coaching staff will put together a great game plan together with their backs against the wall. If Auburn fails it will be more about the coaches than the players. Auburn sends players to the NFL every year and then they decide to change the offense. Now they stink? That is a coaching fail, and not a talent fail.

This will be interesting. Some Auburn fans I have talked to said that Auburn will be ready to kill Alabama. Well, I’m pretty sure Alabama is pumped up right now, too. They have lost the past 6 years, and JPW hasn’t been Auburn once in his years at Alabama. Both teams are going to be ready to rip the heads off of each other. Its personal this year. I don’t think its about Bama reaching 12-0. Its about revenge.

Au never even got in the red zone..not once! Bama only had one penalty the entire game…awesome…simply awesome.
