Alabama vs Florida, 2008 SEC Championship, Prediction
December 2nd, 2008 | by Ethan Jaynes |
Alabama vs Florida, 2008 SEC Championship, Prediction. Let me start off by saying that this will be one of the best championship games since USC vs Texas a few years ago. These teams are ranked #1 and #2. It is my opinion that the team that loses this game and wins their bowl game should be ranked #2 at the end of the season polls. These are the 2 teams that are playing the best in the nation.
I have doubted Alabama’s readiness. I knew that they were well coached. I knew that they had a ton of young talent. The thing that was holding me back was the ugly wins, and lack of experience. The reason that I now say they are well deserving of the #1 spot is that they destroyed Auburn. They showed maturity, and they showed that great coaching, hard running, a dependable QB, and a great defense is a winning combination no matter the circumstances. Last weeks game was the biggest win for Alabama in years, and now this weeks game is the biggest. Saban is well worth the money they pay him, and quite a bit more.
Florida is on a mission. You can pinpoint the origin of the commission. When Florida lost to Ole Miss we all saw a possessed Tim Tebow and he did not promise that they would win every game. He promised that they would play their hardest and he would be the leader. Now considering that he is one of the, if not the, best college football player of all time, and that he is only a Junior, I am 100% convinced that he meant it. The numbers prove it. He is not breaking his records from last year, but the team is breaking SEC scoring records left and right. The defense is awesome, and the offense has multiple weapons. The injury to Harvin will hurt, but the Gators have 5 star talent riding the bench.
My prediction is that Florida will win. I have talked trash about Alabama this year, and they have shut me up. I did not believe in them and they made me believe. They deserve their ranking, but Florida is a special team this year. Just like Georgia from last year, sometimes it takes a bad loss to wake up a team, and make them play their best football. Florida is focused. Florida is dangerous. Florida has more talent. Florida has been here before. This will be an ugly game till Florida pulls ahead in the 3rd. Florida should have a comfortable lead by the middle of the 4th.
That is just what I think. Leave a comment with your thoughts. Thanks for visiting the blog. Be sure to watch some SEC Football Videos!

Yes, I agree with most of what you say, Florida
is truly a great team, and Tebow is exceptional,
but, there is that (however)..I don’t think that
Florida has played any team thus far with the
drive, desire, and the ability to make things
happen like Alabama. I think that Alabama has a
very strong balance offense, as well as defense.
Once again, I feel that Alabama is going to
prove you wrong again by coming out with a BIG
WIN. Alabama 34 Florida 28..Roll Tide !!

bana is going to win and this is why defense is a killer always to even the best offense and they cant stop glen he is a killer running

Phil, u said that florida hasnt played a team with the “desire” and “drive” alabama has. Florida is the team that has been playing with the “MOST” desire and drive outa any team in the country after the olemiss loss. They have ouscored all of there opponents by 21 points and more, and have killed top 10 teams like LSU AND GEORGIA that alabama has played and barley came away from. i think florida will win by 14 atleast.

Fair enough prediction. By the numbers Florida should win yes. The only problem is, as we all know, the outcome isn’t always decided by who has the better numbers coming into the game. In my opinion, neither team is better than the other here. Florida did lose to Ole Miss earlier in the season, but they have proved themselves by dominating every game since. Alabama has had some close wins and some that aren’t so pretty, but who cares? A win is a win correct? They are where they’re at right now because they worked their tails off. I believe Alabama has finally proved themselves to most and even if they do not win against Florida, they have still had a great year. Regardless of all the numbers and ranks, this game is gonna be a showdown. I believe its going to stay a tight game the whole time and whoever wants it more will come out with the win.
On a sidenote, anybody know when was the last time Alabama had such a lead against Auburn that their second string finished the game?
By Jody on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
Well I’ll agree that this will be Florida’s toughest challenge since Ole Miss, but I don’t think that Alabama has what it takes to overcome them. Point, we lost to Ole Miss, by fluke, but like the writer said, that game was a wake up call for Florida, and ever since, they have been unstoppable.
Beat South Carolina 56-6
Beat Georgia 49-10
Alabama 41-30
Beat LSU 51-21
Alabama 27-21(In overtime might I add)
Beat Kentucky 63-5
Alabama squeezed by 17-14
Lost to Ole Miss 31-30
Alabama creeped by 24-20
Granted, Alabama has pulled off every game, they are 12-0, but they’re not gonna have that kind of luck against Florida…

Alabama is the most powerful team in recent football history. Florida is a team that will face a team that is overwhelming.

Alabama can do this. I think that this will be a very hard game, but they can do it. If they do lose, it won’t bother me as much as I thought it will. Bama has played a great season. I will say this, though. Lets forget about the stats this saturday. Anything can happen. This is the SEC championship, and suprises are possible.

It want even be close.Alabama is to good on defense to let florida run up in down the field. We’re one of the least penalize teams in the country,Has the best ball control team in the country and the most PHYSICALL team in country. You can bet the house on this one my friend BAMA wins BIG@!!!!!!!!!!
Roll Tide Roll

I agree with you abbey and like i said before, the outcome isn’t always decided by who has the better numbers coming into the game. This is college football. Upsets come daily here. Anybody can beat anybody. I think i speak for everyone as well as myself when i say that is why we all enjoy it so much. I do find it odd that Alabama is being seen as the “underdog” here though, given the fact that they are No. 1/Florida is No. 4 in the BCS rankings and they are No. 1 again in the AP Poll when Florida is below them in 2nd. I suppose this will work to our advantage though, given the fact that it seems like we play better as the underdog. Anyways back to the point. Yes, Florida has shown their strength since the Ole Miss loss, and might I say they have shown it quite tremendously, but you cannot just push that loss aside. Obviously, Ole Miss did something right to beat them. Obviously, they were the better team that day. If Ole Miss could beat them, how can you say Alabama can’t overcome them? Basically all I’m saying is Alabama has just as much of a chance to win as Florida does. I do not see how anyone cannot agree with that.
By Abbey4bama on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
Weston, I’m glad you agree. Sometimes, I don’t think Alabama gets much credit. Alabama has won some games this year when they weren’t given a chance, even if they “creeped” by. I think Bama’s underdog status will pump the guys up this saturday, too. This is a bit of subject of the ‘08 championship, but if you compare the Tide to how they played last year, It’s amazing. I’m proud of the players, and I think that Coach Saban has done a great job. Ok, back to the game. =) Ultimately, this will be a very tough game for both teams. Here’s to Bama! Roll Tide.

“Phil, u said that Florida hasn’t played a team with the “desire” and “drive” Alabama has. Florida is the team that has been playing with the “MOST” desire and drive outa any team in the country after the olemiss loss.”
What does this mean? I think Phil was right to say that Florida hasn’t played a team with the “drive/desire,” of Alabama, unless Florida wants to count practice against their scout team…and I’m not convinced their scout team has been giving it their all. And you can’t look at how bad one team beat another to get a good idea of how the outcome of this game will be. This is two different teams, with seprate strengths and weaknesses playing against one another. if you lined Florida up against Ole Miss ten more times Florida would probably beat them everytime, but I think the lesson we’ve learned from that loss is that in this conference, or even at the collegiate level, any team can win on any given day. Roll Tide…John sucks.

Im sorry, but i just cant see where this alabama team is all that good. When looking at their schedule, after they beat georgia back in september, there wasn’t anyone left of their schedule that could match up besides LSU and maybe Ole Miss…. Also i not sold on this so called physicalness of Alabama. True, they are pretty physical, but they are no more physical than Ole Miss, Kentucky, or LSU. They didnt beat these teams (Ole Miss and LSU) becasue they were more physical, they beat these teams because of a play or two that went in Alabama’s favor….. I dont think Alabama physical presence is going to be something Florida hasn’t seen already.

I think that gators has a good chance at winning the SEC championship against crimson tide. All because florida is a better team and they deserve it.Im not a big gator fan but they are really good.Tim Tebow and Percy harvin got alot of talent. They show it on the field.Crimson tide better hold that. defense are they will lose the game.It will be a good game to watch.Thats my comment on the game.May the best team win.
By CRIMSON604 on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
The Tide has a good shot at victory. The big sign that I will look for is Florida’s ability to run off tackle. If our MOUNTAiN in the middle stands firm and forces Florida in to a pass only offense, I believe they will struggle to put up the points that they are acustomed to scoring. I have not seen any team stop Tebroke from scrambling his way out of trouble, which opens up the passing game. if we squash the run, including Tebow and force him to throw often he will be out of his element. I believe we have the personnel to do just that. Roll Tide
By Big Al on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
This game will come down to turnovers.
The team that turns the ball over the most loses the game.
It could be one single fumble or interception that swings this game.
The Tide defense is too good to let Florida run up and down the field on us. The Tide offense can control the game by running the ball and eating up the clock.
By SECFANALABAMA on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
Ladies and gentlemen the facts are plain and simple….Florida has more weapons on offense and Alabama’a offense cant put up the points to keep up with Tebow and company. The only chance Alabama has is to have serious ball control and to keep Tebow off the field as much as possible. Florida’s defense is too good to allow that to happen…so…with that said go call your bookies and place your bets…Florida wins this one convincingly….Florida 49 Alabama 17

Run a defensive formation like a 3-2 with designed blitzes and bring the heat with the speed at corners and OLB randomly based on reads, and zone the remainder. I believe that our defense will disrupt the powerful offense of FL by owning both lines. Prediction AL 37 FL 31 FL with a late TD by FL
By Dr. FeBreeze on Dec 3, 2008 | Reply
I think that both teams are very, very good, both have great defenses and both are very good at controlling the clock. However, you can’t deny the fact that Florida’s offense has been playing spectacularly, and though the Tide have been playing some very good football offensively as of late their offense is not as versatile as florida’s. Just from easy comparisons we can see that the tide barely drowned down the stout defense the LSU put up and beat Ga by barely more than 10 points while florida kept both teams below the 25 point mark and scored well over 50 in both games.
Another fact that no one seems to be remembering is the fact that Alabama has faced fewer ranked teams than Florida and though they have won against both by slim margins, Florida has dominated each of the ranked teams that they have faced.
In the end both teams will play very well but I think that florida will end up winning the game.

and how can you say the ole miss game was a fluke? Florida go beat… enough said.
Bama got where they are bc they are a strong team, not to mention they play 15 true frehmen.

unless bama can stop teebow from rushing and make him throw they might win. but we’ll see…and the 15 freshman just goes to show you that nick saban is the best recruiting coach ever and boy can he coach. look what happened to LSU once they lost all of saban’s recruits and only left with les miles’ players. what a joke they turned out to be this season. lost to arkansas! sheesh…and this is coming from a louisiana native i might add. all i have to say is if bama doesn’t win it this year–shooooot let’s see what happens the next 3 seasons. however, i pick florida by 3 points.

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer Give em hell ALABAMA,
I think the game will be close everybody keeps saying Florida only lost to Ole miss it was a fluke that ole miss won not only did the win they were unranked and beat the gators in the swamp!!! the gators got a nod to control their own destiny and Alabama will take what is theirs a 13th national Championship respect to the gators but high scores are good but they have never had to control a game besides ole miss and they failed. Alabama is strategic and they are playing old school smash mouth football and tim cant handle it
By john bledsoe on Dec 4, 2008 | Reply
are you bama guys kidding? JPW has NINE touchdowns?????? Tim has that each quarter. Coffee is great, I will give you that, and the D line is good, Smith is great, but Florida is stacked at each postion. If Saban was over 6 feet it might be close, but he’s not.

Haha the fact that some alabama fans are saying bama will win big is just ridiculous. How can you even say that with how well both teams are playing. Both teams are playing well and I don’t see a blowout on either side. Florida will eventually pull away either in the late 3rd or early 4th but it won’t be a blowout. I do believe that Florida has athletic talent that is superior to Alabama and it will show come Saturday. Florida has the big play makers while Alabama doesn’t. The advantage at QB will be enough to for Florida, no one will stop “superman.” Before you Alabama fans jump on me for calling Tebow that just know that I’m not a gator fan or much less care who wins on Saturday.
Florida 44 Alabama 34

i dont see it either rtr how was the florida ole miss game a fluke. Also someone said that the only reason that alabama won against ole miss and kentucky was one play that went our way the reason it went our way is because we are more PHYSICAL open you eyes people come on alabama will play there best game of the year bama wins 28-24 special teams has great day also and by the way we were a 10 point underdog against georgia
ROLLLLLLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!

okay 1 dude you dont even know how to spell bama and 2 florida has proven themselves ever since ole miss…tim tebow did promise that a team would not come within 14 points of them and guess what NO ONE has. i can almost guarentee a win for them. bama is starting a fight they cant finish. as a matter of fact no one has came within 30 points of them. even b4 mississippi beat them, the team to come closest was miami of florida and they only hit a field goal. when you beat teams like georgia who was supposedly supposed to have a bcs championship in there hands by the end of the season by 39 points thats how u know you have a good football team. the gators are unstoppable its as simple as that. dont talk about “oh they have 15 true freshman” who cares…not saying bama isnt an unbelieveable team but florida is just better. i got florida by the same score they whooped ohio state by 2 years ago…41-14 (by the way ohio state fans, that was a complete joke, thanx for a waste of a ball game)and florida doesnt have desire? im not even gonna say anything to that cuz ur outta ur mind. alabama had a rough time with LSU..florida beat em by 30 points idk all i gotta say is that all the stats just say florida is a better team.

and to top it off nick saban is an ***. he needs to commit for once i bet anything he will leave alabama in a year or two and go onto some other team like he did with MSU and LSU and miami. florida got beat by ole miss…w/e teams get beat. its life. like he said tho. its a real wake up call. i guess we will see tomorow

Alabama didn’t barely beat Georgia.

They beat them by 11 points.Tim Tebow won’t be able to run the ball as much this game,so a majority of the Gator’s plays are gonna be thrown. If Percy Harvin is sitting out this game, then I believe ‘Bama has a better chance to win, just because it will be easier for their defense to keep their offense away from the endzone. Alabama’s defense is way too good to let Florida run up and down the field on them. Also, their drive and desire is some of the strongest i’ve ever seen. John Parker Wilson and The Tide have completed some of the best games i’ve ever seen Alabama pull off.Regardless of whether or not they have played highly ranked teams, they’ve played one of their best seasons on record. Oh yeah,The Ole Miss game wasn’t a fluke.Alabama beat Ole Miss by four points,so i’m guessing that was a fluke too, huh? No,Florida just lost. I agree, this will be one of the best games since USC vs. Texas in 2005,but I think Alabama will pull it out, whether it be by 1 point, or a landslide. And just in case your wondering,i’m a fourteen year old girl.

Jody, If I were you I wouldn’t be comparing florida and alabama’s past games or how florida outscored their opponents by how ever many points. A win is a win. Alabama might have creeped by Ole Miss but Florida lost to Ole Miss. You just can’t compare what they have done to other teams. In my opinon I don’t think Florida has played this strong of a team in awhile. They played FSU and the Citadel in the past two weeks. There not ready for this game. It still will be close but you can bet Alabama to squeak out another one. Final score Alabama 34 Florida-28

What’s awesome is that Florida dominated and now all the bama fans are going to get their asses kicked again in their bowl against Utah.
