Richard Samuel may have some big shoes to fill.

The smart money out of Athens coming out of spring practice was that there was going to be a running back by committee coming out from between the hedges. Caleb King may have been the lead dog, but yesterday’s scrimmage may change things altogether. Richard Samuel rushed five times for 108 yards and a touchdown and took a pass 70 yards for another touchdown.

“Richard ran the ball well, but he definitely had more space to work with than any other back,” coach Mark Richt said. “There is no question about that. You can’t let the amount of yards Richard got today fool you, but he was impressive.”

So this obviously doesn’t end the conversation, but with a team that’s been practicing live as much as Georgia has? This definitely means Richard Samuel is firmly in the conversation to be the heir apparent to the Bulldog tradition.
