Greg Muckelroy? An honest mistake Brent, Video

Posted on 07 January 2010 by Ethan Jaynes

Greg Muckelroy? An honest mistake, Video. The Legend, Brent Musburger, called the BCS National Championship, and called Alabama’s starting QB Greg McElroy, Greg Muckelroy. It is an honest mistake because Texas has a defender named Roddrick Muckelroy.

You know he was embarrassed but it was an honest slip of the tongue.

Alabama vs. Texas, BCS Championship Prediction Pick

Alabama vs. Texas, BCS Championship Prediction Pick

It’s not the championship that we wanted. But it’s the championship we’ve got. Alabama looks to be a favorite. And in some aspects, there is a reason to believe the favorite will roll up on the underdog and fake them wish they were back in the House of Spears. But will they? I’ll tell you.

First of all, like Virginia Tech and Tennessee, this vibe is that of something hard-hitting and defensive. You have two of the top defenses in the country. You have two of the top offensive skill players in the country. The storylines are easy.

But the problem? Alabama has this tendency to find their way into tamping down the games of the opposing teams quarterback with their strong style. The Cody-McClain-Arenas triumverate locks it down on all three levels. And Texas has an offensive line that’s willing to let a defense pressure them. Nebraska almost beat them without an offense. Alabama’s defense is just as beastly.

But that being said? Mark Ingram’s not going to have an easy day either. Texas is the best defense in the country against the run. He’ll be decent. But if they’re expecting him to win the game for them. There will be issues. Concerns as well. Greg McElroy has to contribute something if they want to get the National Championship. They can’t bog down in the Red Zone if they want to beat Texas,

This is going to be the sort of game that seems like it will be borderline unwatchable. Both teams are built to stop the offensive skill position superstud. Alabama is going to generate pressure. Texas is going to run-stuff. And it’s going to be dirty and ugly and punch you in the face football. As for me? I don’t trust Texas doing enough to win. Alabama 16, Texas 13.

Splashdown to a National Championship in 3…2…1…

The perfect gift for the hardcore non-Gator based college football fan…

The perfect gift for the hardcore non-Gator based college football fan…

My former tag team partner at the Grand National Championships is someone who also enjoyed the Tim Tebow whimsy of his Sophomore run for the Heisman trophy. It was a simpler time after all. we had never seen The Dark Knight, Jay Leno was a nice way for old people to go to bed, and Tiger Woods?

The less said the better.

Anyway, the worm turned on Tebow for my ex-tag partner during last year’s national championship game. You remember, when Marty Brenneman said breathlessly “I’M YOU ARE ABLE TO SPEND JUST FIVE MINUTES WITH TEBOW YOUR LIFE WILL BE CHANGED FOR THE BETTER!” or some such nonsense. For you see? My tag partner is someone who is a hardcore Boomer Sooner.

And as such? I know what he’s getting for Christmas…

Florida vs. Alabama, Prediction Pick The SEC Championshippening

Florida vs. Alabama, Prediction Pick The SEC Championshippening

Here we go. The match-up that everybody saw coming. Florida v. Alabama. Ingram vs. Tebow. Man Mountain Cody vs. Spikes. Jorts v. Bama Bangs.

Who does the man John Hill called an “uninformed fricking idiot” think will win? Follow me.

Well, we all know the story coming into the game. How will Florida overcome the pass rush loss of Drunk Carlos Dunlap? And I have to say, despite the divinity of the man called Jermaine Cunningham?  There’s a small problem. Greg McElroy with time will be a good game manager. This will put undue pressue on Joe Haden to lock down Julio Jones.

And even then? Some combination of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson should be able to move the ball. And Javier Arenas? He is someone who can change games with pass coverage and punt returns. And with Renaldo at his side? Saban is someone who is truly Dangeresque.

But Florida? The case for Florida is based on two reasons. One, it’s rare that you have such a veteran team at the high stakes win or die aspects. And at this point? It won’t matter how much you win by. Nobody’s going to break a pompon over your head for a one point win.

And Aaron Hernandez is a mid-range force of nature. He will be necessary for Florida to win? You know what else will be necessary? The Tebow who earned praise for deeds instead of words. His passing game has atrophied without Harvin.

But that being said? It’s a difficult prediction pick. Florida is favored by five and a half. And that makes no sense on paper. Alabama looks like the better team. They should win and cover.

However? And considering the year we’re in and my lack of a Florida homerism, this is a bitter pill to swallow. I am saying Florida 24 Alabama 17. My head says don’t bet against the Tebow in a one game playoff.

But I’m watching the game with the mute button. I’m breaking out the indie rock on the iPod.

Last Week: 3-5
Overall: 48-38

2009 Iron Bowl, Alabama vs Auburn, Prediction Pick

Posted on 24 November 2009 by SEC Chick

2009 Iron Bowl, Alabama vs Auburn, Prediction Pick. This year will mark the 74th meeting of Auburn and Alabama in the Iron Bowl. This season I think most would agree that this is Alabama’s game to lose. The Crimson Tide is coming into this game undefeated and ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation. While Auburn has struggled in their SEC match ups this season. They come into this game with a 3-4 SEC record with losses to Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, and Arkansas. This game is a big rivalry game though, and often that means anything goes.

Mark Ingram and Ben Tate are sure to be battling it out in this game. Both are superb running backs who have already racked up over 1,000 yards each this season. Mark Ingram should fair well against Auburn’s defense who has allowed over 100 yards in all but two games this season. Ben Tate on the other hand may struggle against an Alabama defense who has only allowed over 100 yards in two games this season. Auburn’s best chance at scoring on this Alabama defense will be in utilizing their passing game. Alabama will have to be ready to stop Darvin Adams and Terrell Zachery who together have over 1,000 in pass receptions this season.

Going into this game I feel pretty certain that Alabama will come out on top. Auburn’s defense has struggled so much this season that I don’t feel they will be able to shut down Alabama’s offense. Whereas Alabama’s defense has shown such great strength this season that Auburn will probably have a difficult time scoring on them. One thing that is going in Auburn’s favor is the home field advantage. Alabama has only won twice at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Nick Saban has never won a game at Auburn during his college coaching career, maybe this will be the year. If Alabama’s offense is firing on all cylinders I expect this to be very similar to last season’s Iron Bowl, which was a 36-0 win for the Crimson Tide. However, if Alabama’s offense can’t perform it could be very similar to the Alabama/Tennessee game earlier this season.

The Iron Bowl is always difficult to predict, but I’m going to call this one for Alabama 38-10. One thing is for sure though the rivalry will be in full effect this Friday. Fans all across the state of Alabama will be hoping to come out with bragging rights for the next year. Let’s see who gets ‘em this year.

2009 SEC Championship, Alabama vs Florida, Prediction Pick

Posted on 24 November 2009 by Ethan Jaynes

2009 SEC Championship, Alabama vs Florida, Prediction Pick. I found the perfect video that explains exactly what will happen in the SEC Championship game. In the SEC, the coaches are larger than life. They are movie stars. This game will come down to just 2 people. Meyer vs Saban. Do not pay attention to the pundits that want to include the “players” into the equation. Urban and Nick have huge egos, but that is only because they finally realized that it really is all about them.

As the video clearly illustrates, I am picking the Gators to win by Eleventy Billion. ( really I pick the Gators to win by 13. I know it’s early, but barring huge injuries, I stand by the pick)

Alabama vs LSU, Prediction Pick, 2009

Posted on 06 November 2009 by SEC Chick

Alabama vs LSU, Prediction Pick, 2009

LSU journey’s to Tuscaloosa this week to face the No. 3 team in the nation, the Crimson Tide. This will be Nick Saban’s second showdown with his former team. Coach Saban has tried to downplay that aspect of this game. Even without the history between Saban and LSU this is one of the most anticipated games of the season. It is a top 10 match-up that could have a major impact on the SEC championship. If Alabama wins Saturday they will clinch the SEC West, if they lose they could possibly miss the trip to Atlanta. Both teams have a lot of luck on their side. Nobody doubts Alabama’s luck after their win against Tennessee, and who can doubt Les Miles’ luck after their games against Georgia and Mississippi State.

LSU and Alabama are statistically very similar teams. Both teams have very strong defenses, and both teams quarterbacks have very similar stats. LSU’s biggest weakness I think will be third rushing defense which has been allowing an average of 114 yards per game this season. Alabama’s Achilles’ heel seems to be their ability to convert in the red zone. With both teams weaknesses and strengths the performance of a few key players on each team could be the deciding factor.

LSU has two of the strongest receivers in the SEC in Terrance Toliver and Brandon LaFell. If they are able to break free consistently on Saturday it could spell disaster for the Tide. Add to that running back Charles Scott who seems to be ready for a breakout performance this season, and LSU’s offense could cause some damage.

Alabama’s big offensive weapon is obviously Mark Ingram. With already over a 1,000 yards rushing this season, Ingram will come into this game rested and ready to go I’m sure. This week will probably be the performance of the season for Ingram. Alabama also has Julio Jones, who just like LSU’s Charles Scott, is prime for a breakout performance. Add to that Marquis Maze and Trent Richardson, and Alabama has the offensive weapons to reek havoc on the LSU defense as well.

I think this could be one of the best games of the season. Many are predicting this to be a relatively low scoring game. I think I agree with that. I do expect Alabama to pull it out by at least one touchdown. Right now my prediction is Alabama wins 24-17.

Alabama vs. Tennessee, Prediction Pick, 2009

Posted on 21 October 2009 by Andrew Rosin

Alabama vs. Tennessee, Prediction Pick, 2009

I know, this seems like an obvious call, the defense will keep Tennessee in the game, but with the way Alabama tamps down opposing quarterbacks, there’s no way possible that Tennessee can win this one Alabama 16, Tennessee 3 on a late Mark Ingram touchdown.

But I am getting ahead of myself. And you should watch the game anyway. This is your third Saturday in October, a week late. I will give you reasons as to why, because I am sharp. Sharp like Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese.

1. As mentioned before? There’s a distinct chance of an egregiously bad call going against Tennessee.

When you have such a source of punditry like a Terrell Owens, saying the refs were, in the twitter vernacular “str8 cheatin’” you have a lot of people expecting Mark Curies crew to make a lazy, Tim McClellandish judgement in favor of the Crimson Tide. And you know what? I’m for it. Complaining about the refs is as American as complaining about your idiot congressman.

And after a call like this? The rep as the Phil Luckett of the SEC is deserved for the Curies crew.

Rocky Top may be apoplectic.

2. How Jonathan Crompton is like Vampire Weekend

See Alabama’s defense has been crushing the hopes and dreams of every quarterback it faces. It could be Paul McCall or Jevan Snead, it doesn’t matter. The worst game every quarterback that has faced Alabama has had will likely be against Alabama. The three tiers of doom will crush your dreams. So of course that means…

The Kid don’t stand a chance.

3. Mark Ingram is so good…

That I would allow for you to ape Bill Brasky facts for a comparison of just how good he is. But please don’t. It would demean us both.

Ingram has singlehandedly taken the Bama offense and put it upon his shoulders considering that Greg McElroy has found a way to fall off the cliff. And after he gashed a generally strong South Carolina defense for 246 yards, the dreaded Heisman talk is coming his way.

However? He’s not someone who has been bottled up. And playing Virginia Tech and South Carolina means you have not been feasting on cupcakes. That being said? I’m sure that Monte Kiffin is going to have n interesting plan to stop Ingram.

All in all? Tennessee will find a way to keep the game close, but in order to win? The defense and special teams is going to need to find a way to get 14 points together. So, I’m going to call it like this. A Mark Ingram touchdown late finally knocks out Tennessee.

The score? You already know the score. Silly.

UPDATE: The SEC has suspended the scheduled crew for this game in the next two weeks. Not saying that it’s going to lead to a different result, but that crew deserved to take a few games off.
